Aztec Hot Chocolate Mead

Aztec Hot Chocolate Mead

The Aztecs made hot chocolate a little different than we do today. They added spices and chiles. So… inspired by that, we made a mead sort of in that style. It’s got Chocolate, Cinnamon, Honey, and CHILES. YUM!

Aztec hot chocolate, known as Xocolatl, is a traditional beverage made from cocoa, spices, and water, offering a unique blend of flavors that differs significantly from modern sweet hot chocolate. We bridged the past with the present by making a Mead with Xocolatl as our inspiration. This is a sweet mead for a good reason. Balance is important when it comes to Capsicumels, Meads with Chilies.

Fun fact: The phrase “that’s a spicy meatball!” originated from a 1969 Alka-Seltzer commercial featuring actor Jack Somack, who humorously exaggerated his experience of eating meatballs and suffering from indigestion.
